b) Steam at any
pressure:-
Normally classified as Minor if indirect fired
and or less than 2 bar pressure and classified as intermediate
if over this pressure but below 10 megawatts output.
i) Shell type steam & hot water boilers
direct fired by Hydro - carbon fuels or electricity

c) Refrigeration:-
Refrigeration systems require a written scheme
of examination under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations
2000 if the installed running and standby compressors are over
25 kilowatts of power input, below this energy level the system
is exempt from the requirements for a written scheme but is
not exempt from the other requirements of the Pressure Systems
Safety Regulations 2000 and as work equipment require to PUWER
1998. The periodicity of examination will be as given in the
written scheme and would normally be:-
| Working examination |
12 monthly |
| Thorough examination |
48 monthly |
The extent of the examination and any additional
tests would be dependent upon which refrigerant fluid was in
the system, the operating parameters, the materials used, etc.
